In the realm of modern engineering, the use of plastic pipes has become increasingly prevalent due to their distinctive properties and advantages. Among the plethora of options, PE (Polyethylene) pipes, particularly PE100 and PE80, along with HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) and PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) pipes, have stood out for their unique characteristics. The Difference Between PE100 and PE80

PE100 and PE80 represent two grades of polyethylene, differentiated primarily by their density levels as established in the international standard ISO 4427. PE100, with a density range of 950-965kg/m³, surpasses PE80, which has a density of 855-940kg/m³. This higher density of PE100 translates to a greater compressive strength, enabling it to withstand higher pressure. It also boasts superior high-temperature resistance. Conversely, PE80’s lower density lends it better flexibility, making it more suited for applications requiring pipe bending.

HDPE and PVC Difference

Diving into the comparison between HDPE and PVC, we find that these materials, though both used in plastic piping, possess distinct properties and applications. HDPE, a highly crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic resin, is known for its excellent chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, low-temperature tolerance, and electrical insulation properties. PVC, a non-crystalline, polar thermoplastic resin, also shows commendable acid and alkali resistance, abrasion resistance, and electrical insulation, but with differing degrees.

HDPE’s crystallinity and non-polarity confer it with greater hardness and abrasion resistance. In contrast, the amorphous nature of PVC affords it better flexibility, albeit with slightly inferior abrasion resistance. HDPE also excels in chemical resistance and low-temperature performance compared to PVC.

Applications of HDPE and PVC

The applications of HDPE and PVC diverge due to their differing attributes. HDPE is frequently utilized in piping systems for transporting corrosive media, high-pressure, and low-temperature fluids, thanks to its robust chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and low-temperature endurance. PVC, on the other hand, finds its use predominantly in electrical insulation, building drainage, and the chemical industry, owing to its excellent acid, alkali resistance, and electrical insulation capabilities.
